Bleeding is the loss of blood from the body. It can occur externally, through the skin, or internally, within the body. It is usually caused by a cut or wound, but can also be caused by a medical condition such as a bleeding disorder. It can range from mild to severe, and can be either acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Symptoms of bleeding can include blood in the urine, stool, or vomit; bruising; and heavy menstrual bleeding. Treatment depends on the cause and severity of the bleeding.
