Borderline lepromatous leprosy is a type of leprosy caused by the bacterium mycobacterium leprae. it is marked by the presence of few or no acid-fast bacilli in the skin, but with a moderate number of granulomas. this is caused by the bacteria invading the skin cells, leading to an immune response that causes inflammation and granuloma formation. the bacteria can also spread to the nerves and other organs, leading to further symptoms.
