Disseminated paracoccidioidomycosis is an infection caused by the fungus paracoccidioides brasiliensis. it is acquired through inhalation of airborne fungal spores, which then enter the lungs and spread to other parts of the body via the bloodstream. once in the body, the fungus multiplies and causes inflammation and tissue damage. the infection can cause a variety of symptoms including fever, cough, joint pain, rash, and fatigue. in severe cases, the infection can spread to the central nervous system, causing neurological symptoms and even death. treatment includes antifungal medications and supportive care.
