Diphyllobothriasis - what does this mean

Diphyllobothriasis is caused by the ingestion of raw or undercooked fish containing the larvae of the tapeworm diphyllobothrium latum. the larvae then mature in the small intestine, where they attach to the intestinal wall and feed on the host's blood, leading to symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and anemia.

What happens during the disease - diphyllobothriasis

  • в результате присасывания к слизистой оболочке происходит местное нарушение её целостности, строения и функционирования — нарушается кровообращение, питание тканей, изменение нервной проводимости и нарушение пищеварения;
  • поглощение лентецом большого количества питательных веществ, витаминов и железа вызывает алиментарное истощение различной степени выраженности, развитие специфической В12-дефицитной (иногда фолиевой) анемии, другие гиповитаминозы, обострение и длительное течение имеющихся хронических заболеваний;
