Strongyloidiasis - what does this mean

Strongyloidiasis is a parasitic infection caused by the thread-like nematode strongyloides stercoralis. it is typically acquired by contact with contaminated soil or water, and is most common in tropical and subtropical regions. it can also be spread through contact with infected individuals. symptoms can include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and skin rashes. if left untreated, it can lead to a severe, life-threatening infection.

What happens during the disease - strongyloidiasis

Strongyloidiasis is caused by an infection with the parasitic nematode strongyloides stercoralis. the parasite enters the body through the skin, usually when a person comes in contact with contaminated soil or feces. once inside the body, the larvae migrate through the bloodstream to the lungs, where they are coughed up and swallowed. the larvae then travel to the small intestine, where they mature and lay eggs. the eggs hatch in the small intestine and the larvae are released into the bloodstream, where they can travel to other parts of the body, such as the skin, liver, and brain. this can lead to a wide range of symptoms, including abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and skin rash.
