Burkitt lymphoma - what does this mean

Burkitt lymphoma is a fast-growing type of non-hodgkin lymphoma that occurs when a type of white blood cell, called a b-cell, becomes cancerous and multiplies rapidly. it typically starts in the abdomen and can spread to other parts of the body, including the face, neck, and central nervous system.

What happens during the disease - burkitt lymphoma

Burkitt lymphoma is an aggressive type of non-hodgkin's lymphoma, which is caused by the epstein-barr virus (ebv) that infects b cells. the virus causes the b cells to produce an abnormal form of the protein myc, which leads to uncontrolled growth of b cells. these abnormal b cells accumulate in the lymph nodes, spleen, and other organs, causing tumors to form and eventually leading to the development of burkitt lymphoma.
