Cushing syndrome, unspecified - what does this mean

Cushing syndrome is caused by prolonged exposure to high levels of cortisol, a hormone produced by the adrenal glands. this can be due to a tumor in the pituitary gland, which causes the body to produce too much cortisol, or due to taking certain medications such as corticosteroids. symptoms include weight gain, fatigue, high blood pressure, and thinning of the skin.

What happens during the disease - cushing syndrome, unspecified

Cushing syndrome is caused by excessive production of cortisol by the adrenal glands. this is usually due to a tumor of the pituitary gland or adrenal glands that secretes acth, a hormone that stimulates cortisol production. other causes of cushing syndrome can include taking glucocorticoid medications and ectopic acth secretion from a tumor outside of the pituitary gland or adrenal glands. excessive cortisol can lead to a wide range of medical issues, including weight gain, fatigue, muscle weakness, high blood pressure, diabetes, and osteoporosis.
