Pilonidal cyst - what does this mean

Pilonidal cysts are cysts that form in the crease between the buttocks, usually near the tailbone. they are caused by hair follicles that become embedded in the skin, leading to inflammation, infection, and the formation of a cyst.

What happens during the disease - pilonidal cyst

Pilonidal cysts are caused by the ingrowth of hair follicles into the skin of the lower back and buttocks. this can occur due to repeated trauma, such as friction from sitting, or from a blocked hair follicle. this causes an accumulation of skin debris, oils, and bacteria which can form a cyst. if the cyst becomes infected, it can cause pain, swelling, and drainage. treatment usually involves draining the cyst and removing the hair follicles to prevent recurrence.

The best way to prevent pilonidal cyst is to maintain good hygiene, keep the area around the buttocks clean, avoid sitting for long periods of time, and keep the area dry. additionally, wearing loose-fitting clothing and avoiding activities that increase pressure on the tailbone area may help reduce the risk of developing a pilonidal cyst.
