Hypospadias is a congenital malformation of the penis in which the urethral opening is located on the ventral side of the penis, rather than at the tip. this can occur anywhere along the shaft of the penis, and can range from mild to severe. in severe cases, the urethral opening may be located close to the scrotum. it is a common birth defect and can occur in up to 1 in 200 male births.
