Agoraphobia is an anxiety disorder characterized by a fear of being in situations where escape might be difficult or embarrassing, or help might not be available in the event of a panic attack or other embarrassing or frightening situation. Symptoms can include dizziness, trembling, shortness of breath, heart palpitations, sweating, nausea, and fear of losing control or dying. It typically develops gradually over time and can be triggered by a variety of situations, including being in a crowded place, being in an unfamiliar place, or being away from home. It can manifest in physical or mental symptoms, or both.
