Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. It can cause a person to feel tired, weak, and short of breath. Symptoms may include pale skin, dizziness, headaches, cold hands and feet, and chest pain. Anemia develops when the body does not get enough iron, vitamin B12, or folate, or when the body has difficulty absorbing these nutrients. It can be caused by chronic diseases, such as cancer or kidney disease, or by certain medications.
