Matte white or gray rings around the edge of the cornea, known as Vogt's limbal girdle, is a symptom of corneal degeneration. It appears as a series of concentric circles around the outer edge of the cornea and can be associated with a decrease in vision. It can occur as a result of aging, inflammation, or trauma to the eye, and is typically seen in people over the age of 40. It can manifest in different forms, from mild to severe, and can be accompanied by other symptoms such as pain, redness, and blurred vision.
