Corns and calluses are thickened areas of skin caused by friction and pressure. They usually appear on the feet and hands, often on the toes and fingers. They may be painful and can be caused by ill-fitting shoes, walking barefoot or performing certain activities. They can be hard and dry, or soft and wet, and may be yellow or white in color. They may develop slowly over time or appear suddenly. Treatment usually involves wearing properly fitted shoes and using protective padding.
