Fecal incontinence is the inability to control bowel movements, causing stool to leak unexpectedly from the rectum. It can range from an occasional leakage of stool while passing gas to a complete loss of bowel control. Symptoms may include frequent and urgent bowel movements, leakage of liquid or solid stool, and a feeling of incomplete evacuation. It can be caused by a variety of conditions, including muscle or nerve damage, chronic constipation, and certain medications.
