Eyelid twitching is a condition where the eyelid muscles contract involuntarily, causing the eyelid to flutter rapidly. It usually affects the upper eyelid, but can occur in the lower eyelid as well. It usually starts off as a mild twitch, but can progress to a more intense spasm. It can last anywhere from a few seconds to several minutes and can occur several times a day. It can be caused by stress, fatigue, caffeine, or eye irritation. In some cases, it can be a sign of an underlying neurological disorder.
