(Swelling of the lacrimal gland, Augmentation of the lacrimal gland, Lacrimal gland enlargement, Expansion of the lacrimal gland, Increase of the lacrimal gland, Amplification of the lacrimal gland)

Enlargement of the lacrimal gland, or dacryoadenitis, is an inflammation of the lacrimal gland, which produces tears. The condition is marked by swelling, tenderness, and redness around the eye, accompanied by a burning sensation and watery discharge. In severe cases, the gland may become hard and painful, and the eyelids may swell shut. The condition can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, or by autoimmune diseases. Treatment may include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medications, and corticosteroids.
