Eastern equine encephalitis (eee) is caused by a virus in the family togaviridae. the virus is transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes, which become infected when they feed on infected birds. once inside the human body, the virus replicates in the bloodstream and can spread to the central nervous system, causing encephalitis. this can lead to inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, leading to a range of neurological symptoms, including seizures, confusion, coma, and even death.
