Paragonimiasis is a parasitic infection caused by the ingestion of raw or undercooked crustaceans that contain the paragonimus species of flatworm. the infection can cause abdominal pain, coughing, fever, and chest pain. it can be treated with antibiotics.

Paragonimiasis - Prevention

The best way to prevent paragonimiasis is to avoid eating raw or undercooked freshwater crustaceans, such as crabs, crayfish, and shrimp, as these can be carriers of the parasite. additionally, boiling or steaming the crustaceans for at least five minutes before consumption is recommended. additionally, water sources should be checked for signs of contamination before use, and if signs are present, boiling or filtration should be used to make the water safe for consumption.
