Annular pancreas - what does this mean

Annular pancreas is a congenital disorder in which the pancreas is wrapped around the duodenum. this can cause malformation of the duodenum and blockage of the digestive tract, leading to abdominal pain, vomiting, and poor digestion.

What happens during the disease - annular pancreas

Annular pancreas is a rare congenital disorder in which the pancreas is encircling the duodenum. it occurs when the ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds fail to fuse during embryonic development, resulting in a ring of pancreatic tissue that encircles the duodenum. this can lead to malrotation of the duodenum, which can cause duodenal obstruction, leading to abdominal pain, vomiting, and failure to thrive. it can also cause pancreatic insufficiency due to disruption of the pancreatic ducts.
