Fetal hydantoin syndrome - what does this mean

Fetal hydantoin syndrome is a rare disorder caused by a pregnant woman taking the anticonvulsant drug, hydantoin, during pregnancy. this drug interferes with the normal development of the fetus, causing physical and mental abnormalities, such as facial malformations, low birth weight, and intellectual disability.

What happens during the disease - fetal hydantoin syndrome

Fetal hydantoin syndrome is caused by in utero exposure to anticonvulsant medications, such as phenytoin, which disrupts normal fetal development due to its teratogenic effects. this disruption of normal development causes a range of physical and cognitive impairments, including craniofacial abnormalities, limb malformation, growth retardation, and intellectual disability.
