Common arterial trunk - what does this mean

Common arterial trunk is a congenital heart defect in which the aorta and the pulmonary artery arise from a single vessel, instead of the normal two separate vessels. this defect can cause a decrease in the amount of oxygenated blood that is able to reach the body, and can lead to severe complications if left untreated.

What happens during the disease - common arterial trunk

Common arterial trunk is a rare congenital heart defect in which the aorta and pulmonary artery arise from a single large vessel instead of two separate vessels. this defect is caused by abnormal development of the embryonic aorticopulmonary septum, resulting in an incomplete separation of the two vessels. this can lead to a reduced blood supply to the lungs, as well as increased pressure in the pulmonary artery, which can cause difficulty breathing and other complications.
