  • Elevate the head of your bed 6 to 8 inches to assist gravity in keeping acid down while sleeping
  • Avoid tight-fitting clothing that can put pressure on your abdomen
  • Quit smoking
  • Drink alcohol in moderation
  • Lose weight if you are overweight
  • Take over-the-counter antacids to neutralize stomach acid
  • Take over-the-counter H2 blockers to reduce stomach acid production
