Agnosia is a neurological disorder characterized by the inability to recognize objects, people, sounds, shapes, or smells despite intact sensory function. It is usually associated with damage to the temporal or parietal lobe of the brain. Symptoms vary depending on the type of agnosia, but may include difficulty recognizing familiar faces, objects, or words; difficulty with spatial orientation; and difficulty recognizing spoken words. Agnosia can be either acquired or developmental.
