Paralysis is a loss of muscle function in part of the body. It is caused by damage to the nervous system, resulting in an inability to control voluntary movements. Symptoms can range from weakness, numbness, and tingling in the affected area to complete loss of movement and sensation. In the most severe cases, paralysis can cause a complete loss of sensation and muscle control that can be permanent.
