Tetanus is a serious bacterial infection caused by the toxin produced by Clostridium tetani. It is characterized by muscle spasms, especially in the jaw, neck, and back, and can lead to lockjaw, difficulty swallowing, and respiratory distress. Symptoms typically begin within 2-14 days of infection and can range from mild muscle spasms to life-threatening complications. Severe cases may also include fever, sweating, elevated blood pressure, and rapid heart rate. Tetanus can be prevented through immunization.
